    Annapurna Day 16

Day 16, Pokhara to Kathmandu: Our final day We started the day with a visit to Sarangkot, a hill near Pokhara which offers great views of the entire Annapurna Mountain Range. Unfortunately, by the time we arrived, the mountains which had been so clear in the morning were covered by clouds and we could only catch a glimpse of what we should have been seeing in front of us.

    Day 15, Biretanti to Pokhara

Today it was official: our time in the mountains had come to an end. We left the small village of Biretanti at 8am after a crazy evening of Nepalese dancing. After a brisk 20min walk to the nearby village of Nayapool, we took a bus to Pokhara, the second largest city in Nepal.

    Day 14, Ghorepani to Biretanti

Our final day of trekking had arrived. Today we were facing a roughly 6-7h descent from Ghorepani (2800m) to Biretanti (1100m). The weather started off very wet and foggy but gradually became better as we started trekking through the rainforests of Nepal. The journey offered some great views of the small villages nestled in the middle of the tropical mountains. To our surprise, we came across a number of landslides on the way. One of them was so recent that our guide rushed us past it fearing that it was not over yet.

Day 13, Rest day in Ghorepani

The rest day in Ghorepani was intended to give us an opportunity to get a great view of the Annapurna range from the alleged Poon Hill (3200m). Unfortunately, the weather was so poor (thick fog and heavy rainfall all day) that we did not even leave our “See You Lodge”. Instead we spent the day making our own “MoMo’s”, a Nepalese speciality. The evening ended with a romantic candellight dinner, since the electricity had gone out, and several games of cards.

    Annapurna, Day 12

Day 12, Thursday, Tatopani to Ghorepani (2850m) The day can be described in one sentence: A 10 hour walk up stairs in the rain whilst getting eaten alive by leeches. We left Tatopani (1200m) at 7.15 am to commence our 10 hour walk with a 1650 m ascent to Ghorepani (2850m). The first hour started well, with dry and sunny weather and good jungle views. However, the weather quickly switched to tropical, heavy, never-ending rain which followed us all the way to Ghorepani. The views disappeared and the only thing left to focus on was the seemingly endless staircase leading us to our destination.

Day 11, Wednesday, Ghasa to Tatopani (1200m)

Following a 7am breakfast at the Florida Guesthouse in Ghasa, we commenced our 5 hour trek in pouring rain and thick fog. Our guide had strongly recommended us to walk as it apparently offered great views of the surrounding area. However, due to the misty weather, the furthest we could see was the person in front of us. Around 10 am the weather started clearing and we finally caught a glimpse of the tropical scenery…

    Annapurna, Day 10

Day 10, Tuesday, Muktinath to Ghasa (2010m)

After the most tiring day of our entire trip in Nepal, we were more than relieved to “sleep in” today until 06:30am. The amazing “bob marley hotel” in Muktinath prepared a super delicious and very filling breakfast after which we were ready to start another day of trekking. Although we were at 3800m, the trek from Muktinath to Jomsom (3500m) seemed like a stroll in the park compared to Thorung la pass.

Day 9, Monday, Thorong Phedi (4450m) over Thorong La Pass (5416m) to Muktinath (3800m)

    Wow, what an experience!

Our day started with a 3 am wake up call and a 3.30 am breakfast. Unfortunately, the food was cooked very poorly causing over half the group to have serious stomach problems. Not the best start to the most difficult day of our entire trek.

    Annapurna, Day 8

Day 8, Sunday, Yak Kharta to Thorung Phedi (4450m)

We left Yak Kharta (4050m) early in the morning to head towards Thorung Phedi (4450m). Although some of the surrounding mountains were covered in clouds, we still had a good view of the area. Our trek became more and more strenuous the higher we climbed and the thinner the air got.

  • Annapurna, Day 7

Day 7, Saturday, Manang to Yak Kharka (4018m)

Our day began just after sunrise with a delicious breakfast and blue skies. Our trek took us through the village of Manang and up into the surrounding mountains. Luckily, the weather remained good, giving us some great views of the Gangapurna mountain and the Manang valley.

The path took us straight through the Himalayas with the views becoming increasingly more breathtaking the higher we climbed.
