    Annapurna, Day 9

Day 9, Monday, Thorong Phedi (4450m) over Thorong La Pass (5416m) to Muktinath (3800m)

    Wow, what an experience!

Our day started with a 3 am wake up call and a 3.30 am breakfast. Unfortunately, the food was cooked very poorly causing over half the group to have serious stomach problems. Not the best start to the most difficult day of our entire trek.

    Annapurna, Day 5

Day 5, Thursday, Pisang to Manang (3540m)

Today we had a five hour trek ahead of us. Although it was only a 300m rise in altitude, the trek would prove to be one of the most strenuous to date.

The day started with a steep climb, offering some spectacular views over the Pisang valley once we reached the top. We then trekked back down into the next valley where we had a tea break in the village of Humde.

Day 2, Monday, Ngadi to Tal

Our day began with a 6 am banana porridge breakfast at our guesthouse in Ngadi. We left to trek at 7 am with 21km and a 1000m rise in altitude ahead of us. The view of the Annapurna mountain range was spectacular. The clear blue skies posed a perfect setting to a great day.

After a wonderful day at the Taj Mahal, we took an overnight train to Varanasi. Varanasi is located on the banks of the river Ganges in Uttar Pradesh. It is the holiest of seven sacred cities in Hinduism and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. It is also the burial site of many Hindus as they believe that death at Varansi brings salvation. (more…)

We arrived in Jaipur by train late at night on 19 July following a hectic day in Pushkar. Jaipur, founded in 1727, is the capital of Rajasthan and has a population of roughly 3 million (an average size in India). Jaipur is also known as the “Pink City” due to the pinkish colour of the buildings in the city center. (more…)

  • Jodhpur – The Blue City

    Jodhpur – The Blue City

From Jaisalmer we took a 6hour train to the beautiful city of Jodhpur. We arrived in Jodhpur late at night and to our surprise it was raining! The first rain we had seen in India. The streets were flooded and many people had come to the train station to shelter themselves from the rain, resulting in the train station being completly overcrowded. We had not seen so many people in the same place at once since Delhi. (more…)
