After a wonderful day at the Taj Mahal, we took an overnight train to Varanasi. Varanasi is located on the banks of the river Ganges in Uttar Pradesh. It is the holiest of seven sacred cities in Hinduism and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. The city houses an endless amount of temples and shrines and is famous for its many ghats (steps that lead to the river Ganges). It is also the burial site of many Hindus as they believe that death at Varansi brings salvation.
