We arrived in Georgetown on the island of Penang on 6.November following a 3hour ferry ride from Langkawi in the pouring rain. Georgetown is the second largest city in Malaysia after Kuala Lumpur and is not quite the picturesque colonial city one would expect. Upon arriving with the ferry we were greeted by a long row of skyscrapers and a very modern ferry terminal. The city was bustling with traffic and the sidewalks were full with people, locals and tourists alike.

Langkawi – A taste of Malaysia
After a very easy-going immigration procedure at a dive shop in Koh Lipe, we were surprised how formal and professional the immigration was on Langkawi in Malaysia. We took a 1hour speedboat ride on 2.November from Koh Lipe to Langkawi and were greeted by five rather unsympathetic looking men standing next to five large vans on a deserted road at the coast of Langkawi. The men took our luggage and started placing it into the different vans that were waiting for us.

After a very short, wild and bumpy speed boat ride from Koh Lipe to Langkawi, we safely arrived in Malaysia on 2.November. During our two-week journey through Malaysia we plan to visit beaches, temples and one of the oldest rainforests in the world! More reports will follow soon!

Koh Lipe – A marine life highlight
Koh Lipe was one of the nicest islands we visited during our trip through Thailand. Not only did it have white, carribean like beaches, but the water had an amazing turquoise color and the marine life around the island was a real highlight.

Koh Lanta – An island escape
The most laid back, relaxing and quiet island we visited in Thailand. It also happened to be the place where we enjoyed one of the nicest sunsets of our entire journey. We arrived in Koh Lanta on 26.October after taking a 4hour minivan and ferry journey from Krabi.

Hong Island
Our trip to Hong Island was not nearly as exciting as our trip to Koh Phi Phi. We had booked a one day trip through our GH in Krabi with Barracuda Tour to Hong Island (700baht per person). A small minivan picked us up at 8am in Krabi and drove us to the beach in Ao Nang where our longtail boat was already waiting for us.

Koh Phi Phi – Paradise
Having arrived at “Gafiyah Guesthouse” in Krabi on 22.October after a 6hour journey from Koh Phangan, we immediately booked a tour to visit the Koh Phi Phi islands the following day. The owner of Gafiyah GH had some great discounts for trips with “Barracuda Tours” and rather than paying 1800baht per person we only paid 1300 (roughly 30euro). The next morning we were picked up at our guesthouse around 8am and were driven to Ao Nang beach where a speedboat was waiting to take us to Koh Phi Phi.

Koh Phangan – Full moon glory
Yes, we were on Koh Phangan during full moon and no, we did not go to the full moon party. However, we still enjoyed a beautiful full moon on 19.October with clear skies and many stars.

A snorkel trip to Koh Nangyuan
On 17th October we had booked a snorkeling trip once around Koh Tao and ending at Koh Nangyuan. We headed to the pier in the early morning, just to find that we were not the only ones booked on the boat. To our surprise there was a large group of women giggling and laughing and putting sun block on each other getting ready for a day of snorkeling. However, once we got closer to the pier we noticed that the women had peculiarly low voices and some had very masculine features. It was only then that we realized that we were not facing a group of women, but a large group of ladyboys! It seemed that we were more intrigued by them than they were by us.

Koh Tao – An island paradise
Following a 10hour overnight bus ride and a 3hour ferry ride we could not have been happier to arrive on Koh Tao in the morning of October 15th. Our accommodation “Captain Nemo Guesthouse” was located near the pier and luckily we did not have to walk far to find it. The lovely guesthouse owners, Philippe and Som had already been awaiting our arrival and immediately checked us into our (airconditioned!) room. We were so tired from the lack of sleep on the night bus that we ended up sleeping for 3hours before we could find the energy to explore the island.
