After a 15hour bus ride from Siem Reap over the Cambodian-Laos border we were more than glad to finally arrive in Pakse. It was already dark and pouring with rain. We took an overpriced tuk-tuk from the bus station to our accomodation “Nang Noi GH” where we had booked a two night stay.
Sabaidee Laos!
After an amazing trip through Cambodia and a 15hour bus journey from Siem Reap to Pakse, we are glad to say that we safely arrived in Laos!
The day had finally come to see Angkor Wat, a world wonder!
Our tuk-tuk driver picked us up at 4:30am (yes, it was very early) so that we could make some great snap-shots of Angkor Wat at sunrise. Unfortunately, we were not the only ones with this idea.
Our second temple day on 17.Sep began with an 8am pick up at our hotel. Today, we had planned to complete the “Grand Circle”. Our first destination was Ta Prohm, a temple used to shoot “Tomb Raider” and famous for the trees that have seemingly suffocated parts of the temple. The temple was one of the most interesting sites of our entire three day tour.
We began our three day temple tour on 16.September after flagging down a tuk-tuk on that morning. Our plan was to visit Banteay Srey, Banteay Samre and the Rolous Group. Our first day was by far the longest in terms of the distances we had to travel. Banteay Srey is located roughly 35km north of Siem Reap and takes nearly an hour to reach by tuk-tuk…
After little sleep and creepy construction workers in Battambang we were very glad to arrive in Siem Reap on 15.Sep. Unfortunately, minutes after arriving in Siem Reap it started to pour with rain and we found ourselves stuck waiting for the rain to stop in a small store near the road side where a very friendly Cambodian family had invited us in. We had never seen such a heavy downpour in our lives!
We arrived in Battambang on 13.Sep following a 6hour bus ride from Phnom Penh. Initially, we had considered spending 2 days/3 nights in Battambang but upon our arrival at our accomodation “Ganesha Family GH” we decided to shorten our stay. We did not get up to much on the day we arrived as it was already late afternoon and it was raining very hard.
Hello Cambodia!
We left Vietnam on 8.September and were excited about the new adventures that faced us in Cambodia. The border crossing was very relaxed and we were surprised that we were not charged an additional “stamping fee”. The bus from Saigon arrived in Phnom Penh around 12pm whereupon we quickly got on another bus down to Kampot.
After a great 21 day trip through Vietnam we have now safely arrived in the village of Kampot in southern Cambodia! We are excited about the adventures that await us. More entries will follow soon!
