We arrived in Bangkok in the late afternoon on 12.October after a short bus journey from Ayutthaya. We had booked two nights at the “Born Free” hostel in Bangkok which had only recently opened and is located near Khao Son Road, the main shopping district. We were both exhausted from a day of temple sightseeing in Ayutthaya so we decided to have an early dinner and sleep.

Ayutthaya – An old city
We arrived in Ayutthaya on 11.October after 5hour bus journey from Sukhothai. Our Guesthouse “Somjai Palce” was located in the centre of town and therefore an ideal starting point to explore the city. We decided to visit Wat Phra Mahathat in the evening just before sunset. It was the perfect time to take photos of the famous tree that has grown around a Buddha head.

Sukhothai – A historical park
We took a 6hour bus from Chiang Mai to Sukhothai on 10.October and were relieved to discover that our guesthouse “Ruengsrisri” was located directly next to the bus station. This saved us from having to pay an overpriced tuk-tuk journey to our hotel. As we arrived in Sukhothai earlier than expected (around 1pm) we decided to visit the famous Sukhothai historical park on that same day.

Chiang Mai – Northern Thailand
After a 22hour bus ride from Laos to Chiang Mai we finally arrived on 6.October in the late afternoon. We made our way straight to “CM Blue Guesthouse” where we had arranged to stay for 4 nights. It was our luck that we arrived on a Sunday as the local weekend market in the centre of town was set up. We strolled into town and ate at one of the many foodstalls that had been set up around the temples. The weekend market was very interesting as people from all the surrounding towns had come to Chiang Mai to sell their goods.

A day with the elephants
On 7.October we had booked a one day elephant experience at Baanchang Elephant camp near Chiang Mai. We had researched this camp in great detail before agreeing to do a one day trip. What many tourists do not know, is that elephant abuse is a very common occurence in Thailand. Almost all of the elephants used in elephant shows and for elephant trekking have suffered brutual torture methods employed by mahouts and elephant trainers in order to make these wild creatures obedient and tourist friendly.

Sawatdee Kah Thailand!
After two exciting weeks in Laos and a 22hour bus, boat and minivan trip from Luang Prabang to Chiang Mai, we safely arrived in Thailand on 6.October. We have many adventures planned in Thailand and cannot wait to tell you all about it!

Kuang Si Waterfall – Simply majestic
On 2.October (Felix’s 29th Birthday, yes he is very old!) we decided to go on a day trip to the beautiful Kuang Si waterfall. The waterfall is located 25km outside of Luang Prabang and can easily be reached by tuk-tuks that leave the city on a regular basis. Kuang Si is set in a stunning location in the middle of the jungle and consists of one big waterfall and a series of smaller falls which are divided by large pools that have formed between them.

Luang Prabang – A world heritage
The bus ride on 30.Sep from Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang was the most scenic we have had on our journey so far. The 7hour bus ride took us high into the Laotian mountains and offered spectacular views of the surrounding area. Laos is truly a beautiful country with lush rainforests, gigantic waterfalls and spectacular mountain scenery.Beo – the talking bird at breakfast -
Vang Vieng – A beautiful landscape
After a brief stay in Vientiane we continued our journey north to Vang Vieng. Our bus left the capital early in the morning on 25.September and drove for roughly 4hours before arriving in Vang Vieng. We immediately made our way to Pan’s Place, a guesthouse which had received great ratings on both hostelworld and tripadvisor.

Vientiane – The Capital
Our “Super VIP” overnight horror bus ride arrived in Vientiane at 8am on 24.September. The bus station was located several kilometers outside of town and a long line of tuk-tuk drivers were already waiting to take the new arrivals into town. Luckily, we had read that Vietiane had a very efficient public bus system.
