We arrived in Surfers Paradise on 23.December where we had arranged to spend one night at the “Sleeping Inn Hostel” where we strongly advise you NOT to stay.

Brisbane – An epitome of Queensland
Brisbane – Somewhere to stay
We arrived at our hostel “Somewhere to stay” in Brisbane on 21.December after a short journey from Hervey Bay. While the hostel was not quite as tidy as we had hoped, the location was good. Shortly after checking in, we took the free shuttle bus to town.

Fraser Island – A wild ride
“K’Gari” as the aboriginals would call it – a beautiful and spiritual place.
We booked a day trip to Fraser Island with “Fraser Island Tours” on 20.December. Our driver picked us up from our accommodation “Aussie Woolshed” in Hervey Bay early in the morning. We had arrived in Hervey Bay early the previous morning after our first overnight bus trip from Airlie Beach.

Whitsundays – Paradise at Whitehaven
Paradise – The only word that can be used to describe the beauty of Whitehaven beach.
We arrived in Airlie Beach on 15.December and immediately made our way to our hostel “Backpackers by the Bay”. Airlie Beach is a very small town which primarily caters to tourists who are planning a visit to the Whitsunday Islands.

Magnetic Island – A wildlife spectacle
We left Mission Beach on 12.December and took a 4hour Greyhound bus service to Townsville. The bus dropped us off right next to the ferry service where a ferry was already waiting to take us to Magnetic Island. We spent three nights in the YHA Bungalow Bay near Horseshoe Bay on Magnetic Island. The hostel is very big and surrounded by wildlife.

Mission Beach – Our search for Cassowarys
And so the search for Cassowarys began…
The Greyhound bus arrived at Mission beach at 10am on 10.December. We were greeted at the bus stop by a free shuttle bus service which took us to “Jackaroo Hostel” where we had booked two nights.

Cairns – The gateway to the north
Our flight from Bali to Cairns on 7/8.December was the worst flight experience we have had on this journey so far. Initially, we were supposed to fly from Bali to Darwin and then take a connecting flight from Darwin to Cairns. However, as we stood at the check-in counter in Bali wanting to check-in for our flight to Darwin (which left at 23:00) we were informed that our flight to Darwin has been cancelled…

Gooday Australia!
Gooday Australia!
After being awake for almost 36hours we finally arrived in Cairns one of the most northern points on the east-coast. We are excited to spend the next 4 weeks travelling down the east-coast from Cairns to Sydney and experience a bit of Australian life and culture. Our journey ends with an epic new years celebration in Sydney.
